We hope you all had a great holiday season and New Year! It's crazy to think that we're already well into 2015. This past year has been filled with adventure--from exploring what's outside our own front door to visiting France for the first time. But, most importantly, 2014 was the year we started see in 52. We're planning even more exciting adventures for this year and looking forward to sharing every moment with you.
But before we get into all of that, we still have a few more posts recapping our visit to Savannah to share, starting with our next stop on our Southern comfort food tour.
Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room is a Savannah institution. The long line of hungry patrons spilling out onto the sidewalk outside the shop doors even before it opens is all the evidence you need of this fact. Even on the morning we lined up, exactly at the 11 a.m. opening time and in the pouring rain two days before Christmas, there were definitely more than 50 people ahead of us. And that's on a "slow" day!
But the hour and a half wait was well worth it. With delicious Southern classics--including the best fried chicken, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, and pulled pork you'll find in the city--served family style in tables of 10, Mrs. Wilkes is communal eating at its best. You're guaranteed to make some new friends while waiting in line (we played a few rounds of charades together to pass the time) and asking your fellow table-mates to pass the chicken!
So don't let the line put you off. Just be prepared to come early (their opening hours are only from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday) and eat a small snack beforehand.
